Final Project Mindmap Progress.

Hello again, its me. This weeks class was more of consultation about the final project progression. Apparently i thought we had class at 10am for Digital Animation. Apparently we didnt, so i just stayed there anyway while waiting for my friends to come over to discuss about the mind map for our final project for creative studies. and well, i was with one of my group members. We waited long enough for the rest to come to discuss with us. We did some rough mind map sketching and first with branch sticking out. Basically i stayed since 10am to 4pm for discussion and for the class. Honestly i am exhausted physically and emotionally. But i wont let that upset me now. I will post up some rough sketches of the mind map that we did. This should be a progress work, mr.Radzibedu wanted us to post them up in our blog. Here they are. Basically we started out with the topic that we were doing this semester which is called "Creative Multimedia" and not Faculty of Creative Multimedia. I was confused at first, but i understood it somehow after that. So later on we focused on a more deeper catogary of Creative Multimedia which we all agreed to do on which is "Applications". So here it is.

Thats all for now.

Lesson 8 : Further Random Association.

I believe this week should be the last week for our blog posts review. Well last week in class, mr.Radzibedu was briefing us about the final group project assignment that we have to do in a group of 5. So me and my friends will be meeting up soon to discuss about the topic given and sketches. Besides that, we were also told to do this little exercise about random association. Well im not really sure about what exactly we have to post because mr.Radzibedu said he was going to upload the slides on the homework that we are suppose to be doing. But i have a rough idea about the exercise we're suppose to be doing. Here is what i think we are all suppose to do.

Create "Scary Images or Object" that will instill fear among people through out the ages using (kitten).

1. Paws.
People who like to steal/rob things are highly advised to stop doing it. This is because the paws of a cat is believed to injure their hands and fingers as though they were scratched by cats. It will be so violent that those people who experience this may never be able to feel their hands anymore instead it just feels like a dead piece of your body.

2. Fur.
Fur is believed to grow on human skin when they purposely get themselves injured. Nobody knows how this works but in most cases it happens to people who enjoys hurting themselves physically. These furs that grow will be violent and sometimes will spread to the whole body and makes human look like animals.

3. Cat eyes.
Cat eyes are believed to appear late at night when you wake up from a really bad dream. If you go back to sleep after that, if you are able to see the furious cat eyes when your eyes are closed, its a sign that something really bad is going to happen afterwards. So you are advised not to fall asleep after that.

4. Black color cat.
A black color fur cat is said to have very bad signs and things happening if you ever see them crossing in front of you or just about anywhere. It is best to avoid contact with any black cats because it is believed that slowly one thing will go wrong and will be followed with alot of other bad things.

I believe that my post will end here. I might post up pictures later. This journey i have been experiencing learning this subject will surely be remembered. I actually remember studying Media Appreciation and Media Culture which reminds me alot about this subject. I want to thank all the lecturers who have helped us go through this subject. And may we meet again in the future subjects we will have. Good day everybody!

I hope tomorrow will be a better day. Toodles! :)

Lesson 8 : Random Association.

Hello again. This weeks lecture was given by Mr.RadziBedu. It was very interesting as it was about Idea generation. It was more of how to produce ideas since to all of us it was rather difficult being an arts student. We are in constant need of coming up with new ideas. Thus, he came up with this lecture about idea generation. I feel it is effective in many ways and also rather hilarious. He used this system of random association. How he relates to things that have no relation to the subject to produce more ideas. In class, he made us try out this by giving situations and asking us to relate it with random words. I am ought to post my pieces of drawings later because i havent done that yet for some time.

So the situation he gave us this time is about "How to make a person stop smoking in 6 months time?"

The random words he gave us is "Traffic Light,"

How we generate ideas is by giving adjectives to a traffic light and transform it and relate them to cigarattes. I will post up my drawings in awhile. I really think this subject is funny but in some ways i have learn some things. Hope the next class is worth looking forward to as it is now.

How to make a person stop smoking in 6 months time?
Random Association : Traffic Light.

1. Metal : Make it tough to smoke.

Explanation : The cigarette will be made of metal and it is so heavy and annoying for people to smoke. This is because they have to know how to balance it in the mouth but its troublesome and it is tough to smoke. Is will also be more expensive for one metal cigarette.

2. Dirty : Create a "YUCKY" effect to cigarette.

Explanation : When it is lighted up, the cigarette will release a pungent smell. It will also produce watery liquid toward the end of the igarette. It will be really "yucky" and sticky so people wont like to smoke it.

3. Sign : Create a weird and scary sign.

Explanation : The cigarette box has a picture of a person who is half human and skeleton. So the head of the man is at the opening/closing of the box. When somebody opens the box, it will scare them because it is as if it is breaking the persons head through the mouth when you open it.

Lesson 7 : Juxtaposition 3.

In yesterdays Creative Studies class, Mr.Radzibedu re-talked about the juxtaposition topic. I feel it was rather interesting just about everything he teaches about juxtaposing things. He gave us random quiz/play that we have to do in class. First he told us to write a bunch of random objects/things. Later on he told us to pick 3 favorite numbers. And soon combine those letter with the objects and have to draw them out. Its really funny but I think i got what he was trying to say/teach. I guess he was trying to ask us to think out of the box. The most random/weird combinations of things could also result in something really good. So i believe it when he explain his reasonings. He also got us to write things based on give objects/things like chillie. He told us to write about love but relate it to chillies. Which i found to be super hillarious, but works somehow. I will post up that piece of sketch thing we did soon for the documentation for this blog. He also told us to do a little homework he gave. Here it is.

Waterfall in terms of Love.

Love is like a waterfall. As its never flowing to smoothly. There will always be ups and downs. n love like the arguments and misunderstandings. It happens from time to time to keep us stronger. Just like love. Sometimes falling hard brings you back up again. Love is like a waterfall because it is suppose to keep flowing even though sometimes its difficult to get back up again. But that is why its a continuous flow, just like our love.

Skies in terms of Life.

Life is never easy. It is always uncertain. There are so many different challenges everyday. So life is like the skies we look at everyday. The skies are always changing. The clouds move in different way with different colors. Sometimes the skies look mellow, like our lives. Life can be sad at times, but it keeps going on. Like the winds in the sky, they keep our lives going. Sometimes when the skies are blue, we feel like our life is doing good on that day. Sometimes the sky is grey, just like our life at times when we have problems or stress. But it keeps changing everyday. Nothing stays the same in life, just like the sky.

Pills in terms of Pain.

Pain, we feel it everyday. Even sometimes when we are doubtful that we are feeling it, we actually do. It is there, even without us noticing it. The pain never goes away, just like a pill. A pill is intended to make whatever pain we feel go away, but it never really does. It numbs that feeling for a moment, but it is still there. Our pain, sometimes we feel like there isnt any, but sometimes we just forget about it for a moment. So when it comes back again we realize it is pointless, just like the pills we eat to make them go away. It doesnt go away, it is there to stay.

I hope people get what im trying to say here. I will post up the drawings later.

I did a rough sketch of a chicken head and a snail body. You can refer to the picture up here. Besides that I also drew an elephant head with an ants body. Radzibedu wanted to see if these animals could live if it were ever to be real in this world. So, judge it.

Random Chosen Words.
1. Flower Mountain.
2. Fire Rock.
3. Oil Mountain.

Class Exercise :

Love = Chilly

Your love is so spicy like a chilly it makes my heart spiced up and beat fast. You look so hot in red like a read hot chilly(HAHA).

Men = Mortar & Pestle

Men are like mortar and pestle because they are rough and hurtful like the material of it. Their words are so hurtful like hitting a pestle hard on the mortar.

Lesson 6 : Juxtaposition 2.

Last week, Sharifah Nur Antasha spoke about Juxtaposition again. Another part of it that is. It was rather interesting to see many contrast examples that she has shown us in the class. She also thought us the meanings of Simile and Metaphore. I think these two words are very important in our life. We are constantly using it every now and then.

Simile is a figure speech in which two fundamentally unlike things are explicitly compared, usually in a phrase introduced by like or as.

An example is like, your lips are red like roses. or, your fast as a cheetah.

Metaphore however is a figure speech in which an implied comparison is made between two unlike things that actually have something in common. But does not use words "like" or "as".

An example is, love is a rose.

Besides that, she also mention what oxymoron is. It is an expression with contradictory words. This could also lead to dissonance which means conflict of right and left brain.

Lesson 5 : Juxtaposition 1

This weeks lecture was given by Sharifah Nur Antasha. I honestly think the topic she was talking about was fancy. She talked about what Juxtaposition is. Juxtaposition is mainly and opposition of things. Either it is text or objects this word can be applied to both. They are mainly to see the contrast or and act of seeing the comparison of these both. Juxtaposition can be either mainly in literary context or can also be seen in arts. However, juxtaposition in art has also the same meaning but is done to create a certain kind of effect or feeling when relate to the art. It is often seen the opposition and contrast of these elements which draw the viewers attention to differences or similarities of them.

Juxtaposition is an act of putting 2 things side by side to make a compare and contrast view on them. It is a very common and popular approach in creative processes. There are different catogaries of juxtaposition. In class we have learnt that there is literary juxtaposition and random juxtaposition. What varies this 2 groups are as follows. Literary juxtaposition means that synonymous to contrast these 2 elements or objects or even text. These 2 might oppose one another. Often examples are showin in sentences that use the words like "but/however/although". However, random juxtaposition means putting 2 objects side by side allowing them to move in parallel. This technique is seen to be able to stimulate creativity or also known as lateral thinking.

Here is 2 website examples that i thought might be interesting and might clarify a better explanation on what literary and random juxtaposition are.

Besides that here is a youtube for you to see what an example of juxtaposition is like. Here is an example for Films. Click the title below or you can youtube it up yourself.

Lesson 4 : Mortar and Pestle.

Todays creative studies lecture was presented by Mr.Radzibedu. He talked about the thinking of people and how it has affected our minds creatively. I honestly felt that his lecture was exciting and hilarious. He gave an example of a pestle and a mortar. He made us think out of the box and think of different ways of using this as an item of our everyday life. Whether it was for games or medicine or whatever it is. He told us to create new ways of using it because someday this old invention will be forgotten and no one will remember what was the initial use of it. Hence, he told us to think about it and think of possible ways of using it differently than how we use it today. I showed my sketch to him and i will upload the sketches soon once i have scanned them.

I personally feel that what Mr.Radzibedu talked about was very interesting. I think he has a point when he told us to think about what will happen in the future. And his main example was mortar and pestle. It might seem weird at first but I think its a brilliant example. Here is a video of what a basic mortar and pestle will do.

Why Use a Mortar and Pestle?

What if one day this object is not used anymore and can only be found in the museum? Lets think about it.

Besides that i felt that the lecture this week was fun. Hope it continues for the next one.

Mortar and Pastel
"Back in the year 2010, what is mortar and pestle? The current time now is decades after 2010."

Possible Use of Mortar and Pestle
1. Game : Rolling the pestle around until it stops, when the pestle faces the person, that person is the chosen on to do something/play the game.

2. Sound : Hitting in different ways to make music. It can produce different rhythms the way you hit it differently.

3. Pain : Massaging(health care). Placing the mortar behind a persons bag and hitting the pestle on the mortar for double effect instead of hitting directly with the pestle. It will give desire for people with backache problems.

Lesson 3 : Mind Mapping.

This weeks lecture was a brief one by Mr.Mustafa. He was briefly explaining the work that we have to do and the actual meaning and understanding of what is a mind map. It is actually a diagram that explains your ideas in little keywords that let people understand it easily. A topic in a mind map usually branches out into little ones that give little details according to the topic give. Mind maps are often found to be effective in learning and explaining things.

A mind map is an important structure of your everyday life. In the lecture this week, we were told that a mind map is a building ground of an information. We start everything with a mind map. Even while taking notes, the best way of making it is by doing a mind map.

Lesson 2 : Novelty, Creativity, Innovation, Invention[Class & Personal Reflect]

Lecture this week was given by Mr.Mustafa. He talked about the meaning and understanding of Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention. Initially, I felt that the lecture was rather dull; due to the very basic definition of these words. But after some time, he started explaining examples and showed us a few fancy clips about designs and we instantly got interested in what was shown.

Novelty means originality or something new/fresh that has never been heard before. It could also mean a different experience depending on context of the sentence. To produce something novelty is difficult. However, I always feel that there will always be that small possibility for anyone to build something novelty. Although, it takes much depth and deep research to create something fresh. Hence, it is never impossible to do something. Nothing comes easy, but with effort, novelty will come your way. An example of novelty creation is this money box. It is common to see a piggy bank for kids to store their money but not a hippo. This would be categorized as novelty.

Hippo Bank.

Hippo Bank.

I have discussed the definition of creativity in my previous post. But id like to stress that creativity is not something only certain people have. Creative is new ideas; it is in everyone, even if you sometimes doubt it. It only takes time to polish your creativity.

He also talked about innovation. I am currently taking Media Innovation as for my majoring in this faculty. So I have been taught the meaning of Innovation. Innovation is a process making something better. It is typically the act of introducing something new. Besides that, it also means changing or making new arrangements to an already made item. We have been taught to make something better by improving its characteristic, appearance or functionality.

Innovation.

Another word that was mentioned in the lecture is Invention. Invention means the process of inventing something. It could also mean an experimentation. It is not easy to invent something but it is also not impossible. Inventions have been around for years now. Many people back then were famous through their inventions of things. An example of an invention is the telephone. It was invented by a guy called Alexander Graham Bell during the year 1876. He was the first one to invent a telephone. But over the years, more people started inventing better telephones that lead to cellphones.

Telephone(1876)

Handphones(now)

Hence, the four words mentioned above relatively have the same definition. Although each of them have specific meanings if you go into detail. But this creative studies class have taught us more than just definitions. The videos that Mr.Mustafa put up for students to watch was also interesting. It has taught us that new inventions, innovations, creations and novelty has brought better life to many people all around the globe. Like how they have helped babies that were born with AIDS. We as designers, can make a difference.

Lesson 1 : Creativity.

This weeks lecture in Creative Studies class was about Creativity. I find the lecture to be rather interesting. The way our lecturer's approach in getting our response and attention was rather different. He was basically explaining the definition of Creativity and Creative. Hence, this weeks blog journal will be about this.

The first thing that comes to my mind when he or anyone mentions the word Creative is new ideas. It is also the ability to produce something fresh like a new way of living or a new way of using certain things. There are actually many meanings to this word but generally they all mean the same thing. Creativity however usually means seeing something differently than how it is normally seen. An example of something creative is a pair of fork and spoon. Today, so many people have looked for creative means of using and improving fork and spoons and the way we use them to eat something. These brainstorming process may take ages but what comes later on is really creative. What people have invented long after that was this thing called "Spork" or also known as Spoon + Fork = Spork. Hence, i believe creative is a way, of someone, seeing things differently. Mainly, creative gives us an idea of something catchy. Example is the spork used today.

Spoon and Fork.

Spork.

I believe everyone is creative. Creative is a way of life, a way of seeing things and i believe that everyone in this world is born creative. It isnt a skill but if you polish it, it will be a skill. But in every one of us, there is creativity that lies within our souls and minds. I also think that creativity comes natural. The harder you think of creating something creative, the harder it will get for you to produce it. Usually, the times that never occur to you, will be the times that those ideas come flowing. Creativity is also said to be a way of solving a problem. Generally how to make your life easier. It is interesting to see so many creative things that people have come up with and sometimes you wish you could do the same. Infact, you can. Creativity isnt something you have to work for to get it. If you embrace it, creativity will show. Creativity comes in anything, even pictures.

Creative Photography.

Thus, I believe that creativity comes naturally. It cannot be forced, for it will come slowly. The best creativity has a sense of simplicity and is unique. So let us all as creative students, embrace it.

Here are some quotes id like to share with everyone.

"A great book provides escapism for me. The artistry and the creativity in a story are better than any drugs."-Wentworth Miller

"A hunch is creativity trying to tell you something."-Frank Capra

"A wonderful emotion to get things moving when one is stuck is anger. It was anger more than anything else that had set me off, roused me into productivity and creativity."-Mary Garden
