Lesson 7 : Juxtaposition 3.

In yesterdays Creative Studies class, Mr.Radzibedu re-talked about the juxtaposition topic. I feel it was rather interesting just about everything he teaches about juxtaposing things. He gave us random quiz/play that we have to do in class. First he told us to write a bunch of random objects/things. Later on he told us to pick 3 favorite numbers. And soon combine those letter with the objects and have to draw them out. Its really funny but I think i got what he was trying to say/teach. I guess he was trying to ask us to think out of the box. The most random/weird combinations of things could also result in something really good. So i believe it when he explain his reasonings. He also got us to write things based on give objects/things like chillie. He told us to write about love but relate it to chillies. Which i found to be super hillarious, but works somehow. I will post up that piece of sketch thing we did soon for the documentation for this blog. He also told us to do a little homework he gave. Here it is.

Waterfall in terms of Love.

Love is like a waterfall. As its never flowing to smoothly. There will always be ups and downs. n love like the arguments and misunderstandings. It happens from time to time to keep us stronger. Just like love. Sometimes falling hard brings you back up again. Love is like a waterfall because it is suppose to keep flowing even though sometimes its difficult to get back up again. But that is why its a continuous flow, just like our love.

Skies in terms of Life.

Life is never easy. It is always uncertain. There are so many different challenges everyday. So life is like the skies we look at everyday. The skies are always changing. The clouds move in different way with different colors. Sometimes the skies look mellow, like our lives. Life can be sad at times, but it keeps going on. Like the winds in the sky, they keep our lives going. Sometimes when the skies are blue, we feel like our life is doing good on that day. Sometimes the sky is grey, just like our life at times when we have problems or stress. But it keeps changing everyday. Nothing stays the same in life, just like the sky.

Pills in terms of Pain.

Pain, we feel it everyday. Even sometimes when we are doubtful that we are feeling it, we actually do. It is there, even without us noticing it. The pain never goes away, just like a pill. A pill is intended to make whatever pain we feel go away, but it never really does. It numbs that feeling for a moment, but it is still there. Our pain, sometimes we feel like there isnt any, but sometimes we just forget about it for a moment. So when it comes back again we realize it is pointless, just like the pills we eat to make them go away. It doesnt go away, it is there to stay.

I hope people get what im trying to say here. I will post up the drawings later.

I did a rough sketch of a chicken head and a snail body. You can refer to the picture up here. Besides that I also drew an elephant head with an ants body. Radzibedu wanted to see if these animals could live if it were ever to be real in this world. So, judge it.

Random Chosen Words.
1. Flower Mountain.
2. Fire Rock.
3. Oil Mountain.

Class Exercise :

Love = Chilly

Your love is so spicy like a chilly it makes my heart spiced up and beat fast. You look so hot in red like a read hot chilly(HAHA).

Men = Mortar & Pestle

Men are like mortar and pestle because they are rough and hurtful like the material of it. Their words are so hurtful like hitting a pestle hard on the mortar.

Lesson 6 : Juxtaposition 2.

Last week, Sharifah Nur Antasha spoke about Juxtaposition again. Another part of it that is. It was rather interesting to see many contrast examples that she has shown us in the class. She also thought us the meanings of Simile and Metaphore. I think these two words are very important in our life. We are constantly using it every now and then.

Simile is a figure speech in which two fundamentally unlike things are explicitly compared, usually in a phrase introduced by like or as.

An example is like, your lips are red like roses. or, your fast as a cheetah.

Metaphore however is a figure speech in which an implied comparison is made between two unlike things that actually have something in common. But does not use words "like" or "as".

An example is, love is a rose.

Besides that, she also mention what oxymoron is. It is an expression with contradictory words. This could also lead to dissonance which means conflict of right and left brain.

Lesson 5 : Juxtaposition 1

This weeks lecture was given by Sharifah Nur Antasha. I honestly think the topic she was talking about was fancy. She talked about what Juxtaposition is. Juxtaposition is mainly and opposition of things. Either it is text or objects this word can be applied to both. They are mainly to see the contrast or and act of seeing the comparison of these both. Juxtaposition can be either mainly in literary context or can also be seen in arts. However, juxtaposition in art has also the same meaning but is done to create a certain kind of effect or feeling when relate to the art. It is often seen the opposition and contrast of these elements which draw the viewers attention to differences or similarities of them.

Juxtaposition is an act of putting 2 things side by side to make a compare and contrast view on them. It is a very common and popular approach in creative processes. There are different catogaries of juxtaposition. In class we have learnt that there is literary juxtaposition and random juxtaposition. What varies this 2 groups are as follows. Literary juxtaposition means that synonymous to contrast these 2 elements or objects or even text. These 2 might oppose one another. Often examples are showin in sentences that use the words like "but/however/although". However, random juxtaposition means putting 2 objects side by side allowing them to move in parallel. This technique is seen to be able to stimulate creativity or also known as lateral thinking.

Here is 2 website examples that i thought might be interesting and might clarify a better explanation on what literary and random juxtaposition are.

Besides that here is a youtube for you to see what an example of juxtaposition is like. Here is an example for Films. Click the title below or you can youtube it up yourself.

Lesson 4 : Mortar and Pestle.

Todays creative studies lecture was presented by Mr.Radzibedu. He talked about the thinking of people and how it has affected our minds creatively. I honestly felt that his lecture was exciting and hilarious. He gave an example of a pestle and a mortar. He made us think out of the box and think of different ways of using this as an item of our everyday life. Whether it was for games or medicine or whatever it is. He told us to create new ways of using it because someday this old invention will be forgotten and no one will remember what was the initial use of it. Hence, he told us to think about it and think of possible ways of using it differently than how we use it today. I showed my sketch to him and i will upload the sketches soon once i have scanned them.

I personally feel that what Mr.Radzibedu talked about was very interesting. I think he has a point when he told us to think about what will happen in the future. And his main example was mortar and pestle. It might seem weird at first but I think its a brilliant example. Here is a video of what a basic mortar and pestle will do.

Why Use a Mortar and Pestle?

What if one day this object is not used anymore and can only be found in the museum? Lets think about it.

Besides that i felt that the lecture this week was fun. Hope it continues for the next one.

Mortar and Pastel
"Back in the year 2010, what is mortar and pestle? The current time now is decades after 2010."

Possible Use of Mortar and Pestle
1. Game : Rolling the pestle around until it stops, when the pestle faces the person, that person is the chosen on to do something/play the game.

2. Sound : Hitting in different ways to make music. It can produce different rhythms the way you hit it differently.

3. Pain : Massaging(health care). Placing the mortar behind a persons bag and hitting the pestle on the mortar for double effect instead of hitting directly with the pestle. It will give desire for people with backache problems.
